LAVANDULA x INTERMEDIA

(commonly known as Lavandin)

Lavandula x Intermedia, better known as Lavandin, is a naturally occurring hybrid between Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia. Lavandins are hardy and grow readily given a sunny site and well-drained soil.

The mounds can grow to approximately 50cm in diameter and 40 – 50cm in height before flowering. The long stems and flowerheads (spikes) can create a bush of up to 1m high in summer. The height descriptors include the flowering stems.

Lavandins usually begin flowering from mid- December through to February, unless harvested for oil production. They make impressive hedges or specimen plants with their prolific show of summer flowers. The majority of lavandin cultivars have a strong fragrance. They can all be used fragrant crafts, fresh or dried flowers and oil production.
